This Earth Day marked 15 years since the launch of the Hands Off Mother Earth! (HOME) as a campaign to becoming a powerful, global resistance against geoengineering.
On April 21, 2010, during the World People’s Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth in Cochabamba, Bolivia, Indigenous Peoples, social movements, and civil society organizations came together to defend Mother Earth against dangerous geoengineering schemes leading to the launch on HOME Campaign.
With the launch of the HOME Manifesto in 2018 which gathered over 200 signatories, the HOME campaign grew into the Hands Off Mother Earth! (HOME) Alliance in 2022 — as a vibrant network of inclusive alliance of civil society groups, Indigenous Peoples’ Organizations, human rights, grassroots, climate justice and feminist groups and advocates.
From helping secure the global moratorium on geoengineering at the Convention on Biological Diversity in 2010, to leading the fight to stop the SCoPEx solar geoengineering experiment, to resisting Arctic Ice Project, to supporting the defeat harmful geoengineering resolutions at UNEA, and fighting for the reaffirmation of the CBD moratorium last year, Hands Off Mother Earth’s members have been at the forefront of this fight.
In the last 15 years our members have stood firm in saying: our skies, lands, and oceans are not a laboratory!
As we celebrate this 15-year journey, we honor Indigenous Peoples, all the communities, movements and allies who’ve stood with us. The fight is far from over, but our collective resistance is stronger than ever.
