More than 100 organisation have issued a statement voicing their concerns about the proliferation of open air and water marine geoengineering experiments that are planned or already underway, many of which are selling carbon offsets, in defiance of international agreements.
Increasingly, our oceans are at threat not only from the impacts of overexploitation and the climate crisis, but also from these misguided attempts to manipulate earth systems with the aim of countering some of the symptoms of climate change.
The Statement outlines the concerns and call for civil society mobilisation to counter the mounting threats to our oceans from geoengineering.
